Celebrate 4th of July With a Bald Eagle Release
What better way is there to celebrate Independence Day than with a release of a rescued bald eagle on your National Wildlife Refuge.
The Wildlife Center of VA will be releasing an adult bald eagle on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at 11am at the Wilna Pond at the Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge.
This eagle was first found on the Rappahannock River Valley NWR on May 10 during the biologist's regular breeding bird count. The eagle was found with a swollen wing. She was then captured by refuge staff and brought to the Wild Bunch Rehabilitation Center where she was evaluated and scheduled to be transferred to the Wildlife Center of VA for further diagnosis and treatment. Since then, she has made a full recovery and is now healthy enough to be released back to her home on the Northern Neck. For more information on her story, click here.
This event is kid friendly and has bathrooms and facilities that are wheelchair accessible. After the event, feel free to fish or hike in the refuge! The Wilna Unit is open to the public everyday from sunrise to sunset.
